FAMILY-FRIENDLY GROUPS MERGE
In an effort to keep more people active and aware, 10 Yahoo Groups dedicated to discussion and activism in family issues have merged. The name of the new group is AFTER<2001, which stands for American Families To Effect Reform. From the welcome page at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AFTER2001/
"Families in this new century are under attack. Uncaring, overloaded government systems, and divorce/custody issues are only part of the problems facing families today. The purpose of this group is to address these issues--to help families in crisis while actively working for change"
The merger is intended not only to form a louder voice to be heard by government officials, but to assist families with practical help in dealing with their own situations nationwide, according to Bud Johnson, listowner of Parents Sharing. Johnson spearheaded the merger, and also encourages other groups and individuals of like mind to join. The new group will also welcome parents from other countries. While 'child protective services' intervention is not a new problem in the US, due to laws enacted in 1997 encouraging children being removed from their homes, to become wards of the state, families in other countries are beginning to be affected and finding nowhere to turn for help.
Utilizing the many resources, talents, and experience of parents who've 'been there,' as well as interested professionals, this group may well be the catalyst we're all looking for to show the world that FAMILIES MATTER. Kids need their dads, their moms, and to know where home is.
Here it is again:

PRO SE ALL THE WAY-- TO THE SUPREME COURT!
Roland Riemers is one of those non-custodial parents who are finding that maybe the best way to deal with your divorce is to represent yourself. He's taken his case all the way to the North Dakota state Supreme Court, and will be presenting on the 14th. He's making a media splash in North Dakota, and is encouraging local residents to join him for moral support.
If you're not local to North Dakota, you can join up and talk to him at his fave e-mail group, Family Wars. This group is a great one because they don't just say they accept both men and womenthey really do!
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FamilyWars/
Of course, the AZFathers are the ones who started this whole business of self-representation. Visit the website at: http://www.arizonafathersrights.com/
These are the guys who, earlier this year, considered changing the name since they had so many mothers and grandmothers on board! So don't let the name fool you! They are excellent human beingsI don't care what their exes say about them. ;>)

TOOLKIT TO DESTROY FAMILIES?
Here is the announcement, in part:
"The Violence Against Women Office, Office of Justice Programs, is pleased to announce the release of the Web-based Toolkit to End Violence Against Women, a product of the National Advisory Council on Violence Against Women. You can find the Toolkit on the Internet at http://toolkit.ncjrs.org.
It is hoped that this new resource will provide the guidance
necessary to assist communities in their efforts to end violence
against women. For more information about violence against women
issues and grant opportunities, visit the Violence Against Women
Office Web site at http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/vawo. "
Dr. Stephen Baskerville, writing in the Dec 9 issue of the Washington Times, calls this The Toolkit to Destroy Families.
"The Toolkit is a series of documents that rehash familiar but discredited hysteria about domestic violence and instruct mothers on how to use groundless accusations of domestic violence to end their marriages and remove children from their fathers. Like myriad existing government programs, this will do nothing to 'end violence against women.' What it will do is accelerate family destruction and increase violence against children."
ED's NOTE: Unfortunately, we could not find the entire text of Dr. Baskerville's letter in the online version of the Washington Times, so no link is provided. The time element did not allow us to request permission to republish the piece.

HOLIDAY MESSAGE FROM REV. MACKAY
If you want others to help you pray and believe with you just send your first name and a short note. . .or just a name to the Men In Crisis Prayer circle at desertlight@angelfire.com Meanwhile, here is a little guidance to get you through the holiday season. May the Lord Bless you and keep you,
Trudy Mackay
"Good Morning
I am God.
Today I will be handling all of your problems. Please remember that I do not need your help.
If the devil happens to deliver a situation to you that you cannot handle, DO NOT attempt to resolve it. Kindly put it in the SFJTD (something for Jesus to do) box. It will be addressed in MY time, not yours.
Once the matter is placed into the box, do not hold on to it or attempt to remove it. Holding on or removal will delay the resolution of your problem. If it is a situation that you think you are capable of handling, please consult me in prayer to be sure it is the proper resolution.
Because I do not sleep nor do I slumber, there is no need for you to lose any sleep. Rest my child. If you need to contact me, I am only a prayer away. "

SILENCING SOMMERS
Christina Hoff Sommers, a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute. http://www.aei.org/
was delivering an invited speech at a conference on "Boy Talk" (a program sponsored by the Center for Substance Abuse and Prevention (CSAP) of the Department of Health and Human Services) when CSAP official Linda Bass summarily interrupted, and commanded Sommers to end her talk. Minutes later, as Sommers was forced by a hostile crowd to defend her claim that scientific studies ought to be used to help evaluate the effectiveness of government drug-prevention programs, Professor Jay Wade, of Fordham University's Department of Psychology an expert on "listening skills" ordered Sommers to "shut the f*ck up, bitch," to the laughter of the others in attendance

***Breaking News*** ANOTHER MOTHER KILLS
Five-year-old's death called 'suspicious'
A mother was questioned and charged last Tuesday night in what police called the "suspicious death" of her 5-year-old son in the family's Yuma AZ home.
Isaac Humer was pronounced dead at Yuma Regional Medical Center after police and firefighters were called to 1513 Las Lomas St. at about 12:30 p.m., said Leanne Worthen, Yuma police public information officer. Worthen said a friend of the family called to report an unconscious child. The friend checked on the family after the mother did not report to work Tuesday morning, December 4.
The mother, Lourdes Humer and another child, age 10, were also transported to YRMC suffering smoke inhalation from a grill burning inside the house.
In 1995, Lourdes Humer was convicted of embezzling more than $30,000 from the country club where she worked. She reportedly told police she needed the money to cover living expenses for her and her son.
Humer is currently detained at Yuma County Adult Detention center on $1,000,000 bond and has been charged with 1st degree murder and child abuse.

"The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it. Through violence you may murder the liar, but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth. Through violence, you may murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. In fact, violence merely increases hate. So it goes. Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that."
