If we had themes for the DLJ, the theme for this edition would be cooperation! The Scots and the New Zealanders, the Americans and Canadians are getting together in a variety of combined efforts, and in Washington State, it looks like the Women's Program is being persuaded to cooperate with the Men's Program for more equitable DV services at Pierce College. I keep saying this, but I'll say it againthis is just the beginning, folks!
The DLJ has also received its first website award, from Dave's World. While it isn't a major award by any means, it seems appropriate, since I now have no fewer than 12 Daves in my personal addy book. To make matters more confusing, seven of them have last names starting in "H" and two of those actually have the same last name!
Read on for the details of the great, positive stuff happening all over the world

In cooperation with Everyman, a Canadian hard-copy magazine, the DLJ is simultaneously publishing an essay by Paul Clements entitled, "Why, Papa?" in the Feb/March issue of Everyman, and as the Guest Editorial for February in the DLJ.
Readers can find Everyman on line at http://www.everyman.org and can subscribe there. Also, they can request a free sample paper copy (Canada and US only) by email or mail

VICTORIES DO HAPPEN!
Hello Everyone:
I am dropping this quick note to inform you all of a great meeting that occurred at our college yesterday, lead by our DISTRICT President none the less. The up-shoot of it all was to bring members of the Women's Programs together with those of us who form the core of the leadership team for our Men's Programs. {Imagine that...going for "unity"}
The center piece of our meeting was to look at ways that we can of mutual support and {here's the new thing} make sure that ALL victims and issues are honored when it comes to our district wide Domestic Violence programs!
Can you dig that?
What this means is that we will be doing our best to make sure that the issue stays on violence, not "gender" and that our focus is to inform, support and design the best "balanced" DV programs we can.
Anyway, should any of you wish to discuss or find out more about how we've pulled this off, or whatever feel free to contact me @ bburkholder@pierce.ctc.edu
I know I'll be asking for other help down the road as we develop more programming ideas. I should also like to acknowledge the positive impact and support we received from two very special men who have been most unselfish with their time, talent and expertise. I speak of Mr. Greg Schmidt & Mr. Stanley Green. Both have helped advance the cause of "every victim counting" in the eyes of our administration as well as bringing fresh and [in some ways] radical perspectives to the members of our campus. I am confident in saying that these advancements would've been much longer in coming had these men not stepped forward and offered their expertise! I will forever be grateful to them both.
Take care everyone, and I hope for some of you who are working to positively affect/effect the organizations you're in day after day, this example let's you know that good things can happen when True Equity and mutual respect are the over-all guiding principles. It took us 8 plus years to have this "balance" formally recognized, but it DID happen and the consequences are profound!
All the Best,

Court frees man from child-support order
By Arlo Wagner
Maryland's top court has ruled that a Cumberland man, who had agreed to pay
child support believing he was a father, does not owe the $12,303 he failed
to pay since the baby's birth nine years ago.
In a 4-3 vote, the Court of Appeals, in effect, said Nicholas Todd Walter,
a cab and tow truck driver, doesn't have to make up the payments because
DNA tests proved he was not the child's father.
"Without paternity, there is no legal duty; without a legal duty, there can
be no financial obligation," according to the judgment written by Lynne A.
Battaglia, former U.S. attorney for Maryland who was appointed to the court
last year.

PETITION TO SCOTS PARLIAMENT
The transcript of the presentation of the UKMM Petition to the Scottish Parliament is available to read on http://www.ukmm.org.uk and can be found under ' News from us - let's have yours ' section near the bottom of the page.
Enjoy reading - but please do not write to the MSP's or approach other Parliaments / Assemblies yet as UKMM are assessing campaign tactics in this direction.
The MSP's were inundated with e-mails of support for the petition and flooding them with further e--mails may cause annoyance and harm the petition's progress.
Rather than contact the petition committee directly, please forward e-mails of support for the petition to me and I will distil them into pdf files which can be presented to the committee as one document either via a website or CD.

The Civil Rights Organisation is set up to campaign for Men's rights, which over the last thirty years have been steadily eroded by a wave of legislation as a result of feminist activist pressure.
The CRO campaigns for changes in the legal system itself via political pressure on elected politicians and also to assist innocent men to more effectively fight cases of false and fraudulent accusations of sex harassment.

Bless those who challenge us to grow, to stretch, to move beyond the knowable, to come back home to our elemental and essential nature. Bless those who challenge us for they remind us of doors we have closed and doors we have yet to open.
