Dr. Reiser is a psychiatrist who now devotes his full time to writing. He is currently working on his second novel, entitled Iron Will, which describes a fictional teenage boot-camp/ wilderness operation, of the sort now so popular in the United States, which claim to have a solution to the problems of recidivistic adolescents in trouble with the law. The novel follows what happens in the lives of a number of characters following the torture and death of a seventeen-year-old inmate at the camp.
He is the author of two books and numerous articles. The New York Times called Medicine as a Human Experience, his second book, "A book that revives a lost skill: compassion," and Life Magazine called it, "A book of uncommon impact ...earnest and quite moving." Dr. Reiser also writes poetry and short stories. His poems have won national awards. He says that the inspiration for Iron Will comes out of his own experiences with the legal system during his divorce. Both the novel, he says, and what happens to men in divorce cases, reveal the same ominous truths. "The equation is simple," he says. "Greed + Indifference + Hatred + Media Sensationalism= Suffering, Degradatrion of the Human Spirit, and sometimes Death.
"Don't expect the Nazi's of 2002 to march into town doing the goose-step. Look for them in the hushed and lavishly appointed offices of divorce attorneys. Seek them in the courthouses, where individuals are dwarfed by the massive granite facades--Doric columns, grand entrances, vast corridors--all designed to make the individual feel puny and helpless. Then, step into the courtroom itself and watch judges sit atop their mahogany thrones, six feet above everyone else.
"The Four Horsemen nowadays don't need to shout 'Heil Hitler!' Rather, they display exquisite manners. Annihilaton arrives in chambers with a Gucci attache case. Murderers kill without leaving a trace of blood. But the victims, especially the children, are just as dead. Ultimately, we are all just as defiled. The Nazis did the unspeakable, but only the legal profession has had the hubris to destroy us and then send our corpses the bill."
